Last Monday we bottled 92 cases of our 2006 Chardonnay and 54 Cases of our 2006 Sauv Blanc. I am happy with both wines. We did not filter either wine. Both wines have very little oak and have a great deal of acid. If you like your white wines buttery and with a little sugar THESE are not your type of wines. We will have the labels within two months, but if anyone wants them ahead of time we can always make up a laser label. Most our red wines will be bottled in July. The 2006 ZP2C will be bottled in August and our 2006 Ultimate Cuvee will be bottled next year in February.

Once in awhile I like to suggest you check out another producers wine that I have enjoyed. Last week Pat and I visited Kate in San Luis Obispo. On one of the afternoons while Kate was at school, I wandered over to Costco, my favorite place to spend money. As usual I came away with more than I expected. This time I purchased 7 bottles of wine that my Santa Rosa store does not carry. One of these bottles was a wine from Italy that I had never heard of. I am always interested in trying new wines, especially since this one was only $16.39 a bottle. It is the 2003 Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre and it is a blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella, and 5% Sangiovese. I had never heard of Corvina Veronese or Rondinella. I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted and found out it had good body with firm tannins, more like a Aglianico or Petite Sirah. I found the wine on sale back East for $16 delivered here so I purchased a case. If you are interested you can search it out at www.wine-searcher.com. Enjoy!!

We are gearing up for what has been our biggest wine sale weekend at the winery every year. Each year our sales have gone up during this Russian River Barrel Tasting. BUT this year the organizers have officially decided to charge $10 a person. As some of you know I am against charging for tasting and I have been against charging for this event which has been free in the past. All one had to do was bring their own glass. Most wineries have had some type of food in the past few years so it has been a great fun event. Also this year in order to break up the crowds they have decided to hold this event for two weekends in a row. We have decided to participate on Fridays also which means we will tomato soup on March 2, 3 and 4 and again on March 9, 10 and 11. Last year 1500 to 2000 people came to our winery on Saturday March 4th thus we have no idea how many will attend this year considering the two weekend event and the small price of $10.

We will barrel sample and sell futures for about 12 wines and we will only pour one bottled wine, our 2005 Petite Sirah. Since 6 to 8% of all our yearly sales have occurred this weekend we are hoping this trend will continue. Since we put our 2005 Petite Sirah on sale at the beginning of the month our sales have been picking up. Also the traffic into the winery has picked up so I am concerned many of the buyers may have already come by. We will see!!

We will be extending our 2005 Petite Sirah wine sale for another two weeks through the Russian River Barrel tasting and as a heads up to those who read my diary, the next wine that will go on sale towards the end of March will be our 2005 My Zin.

Friday March 9, 2007

Last weekend we hosted the Russian River Barrel tasting. As I said this has been the biggest weekend every year. This year it has been changed to two weekends and we are happy to report that we had about 60% of the traffic, but our sales for last weekend were already 80% of last year, so if we do 20% more this weekend we will equal last year. Of course we have no idea who will show up. Maybe everyone visited last week.

I have another wine that I can recommend. As I have said I love Aglianico, so I took a chance and ordered a bottle of an inexpensive Italian Aglianico, 2005 Terredora Dipaolo. I love young wines so I thought it was as good if not better than the 2003 Allegrini I mentioned last week AND I paid only $9.99. I will be ordering more.
